Garden Competition

These are a few background notes regarding the garden competition.

  • The Garden Competition is part of the annual Turnditch & Windley Show. There is a Show Committee who organise this community event.
  • Independent Judges
  • The Garden Competition is judged in July
  • Winners/entrants are notified of their own result soon after judging, with the schedule of winners being announced at the T&W Show (first Saturday of September)
  • 2 sections – Small and Large gardens.  (No formal definition, determined by the independent judges, depending on the gardens entered that year)
  • Awards consist of:
    • Large Gardens
      • 1st winner: The Parish Council Perpetual Challenge Cup- returned at the end of the year
      • Rosettes for those placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd
    • Small Gardens
      • The Scholes Perpetual Challenge Shield – returned at the end of the year
      • Rosettes for those placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd

(There are no cash prizes)

  • All gardens around the area of Ashbourne Road (Turnditch/Cowers Lane stretch) and Windley Lane (between A517 Ashbourne Road to B5023 Wirksworth Road) are eligible to enter, except the current 1st prize winners in each section.

This is a community event to be enjoyed by all.  Cottage, courtyard, landscape, formal, big, small, productive, wildlife-friendly, family-friendly, eclectic, organic, specialist – bog/ dry/ tree/ shade, mature, under development…whatever your garden style, whatever the size… all types wanted and welcome
